Image pixelation divides an image into larger color blocks to reduce visible detail. A mosaic is a common use of pixelation—typically to hide private information. Beyond masking, pixelation is also widely used for creative purposes, transforming photos into pixel-art styles for retro game looks or unique visual effects.
Enable “Local Pixelation” and choose one of two tools: the rectangle tool to box out clean, square areas like text or faces, and the brush tool to paint over irregular shapes with precision. Only the selected regions are pixelated—everything else stays unchanged.
The tool preserves your image’s original resolution and adds no watermark. Exports are PNG and can include transparency. If your source photo is high-resolution, the result remains sharp—the pixelation changes the visual style, not the actual resolution.
JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP, and other mainstream formats are supported. Each file can be up to 5 MB, which suits most use cases. If your image is larger, compress it first. Processing time depends on file size and your device’s performance, but it usually takes only a few seconds.
Pixelation is irreversible after saving, so always keep the original. Choose a pixel size based on your goal: 2–10 px for subtle blur, 10–30 px for stylized art and avatars, 30–50 px for standard privacy masking, and 50+ px for strong, unrecognizable cover.
